DES MOINES-The public is invited to lace up their walking shoes and join the North of Grand Neighborhood Association for an architectural walking tour next weekend.

The North of Grand Architectural Walking Tour will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 and begin at 632 40th St. The tour will be held rain or shine and is free and open to the public.

North of Grand resident and architect Tom Wollan, AIA, LEED AP, will lead participants through the western part of the neighborhood while noting historic homes, period architecture styles and why the neighborhood includes the styles it does. Wollan is an architect with Frevert-Ramsey-Kobes Architects-Engineers in West Des Moines.

In 2010 alone, the North of Grand neighborhood had nearly 200 homes and buildings reach the century mark. In 2011, the neighborhood underwent a historic survey of the Greenwood Park Plat (39th -42nd / Grand-Center) which has now been determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, the Middlesex Plat Historic District on the neighborhood’s eastern edge received National Register status in 2000.
